Silence the Critical Voices in Your Head

Always very self-critical, one thing with which I've learned I can improve is taking a compliment. Rather than reflect on good words I often quickly move on, uncomfortable with the attention and dismissing it as flattery. This article really helped me to review how I can both receive and give positive feedback better, and helped to persuade me that focusing more on the positive is necessary, especially when it comes to hitting the recommended five to one ratio of positive to negative comments. It was also a fresh reminder that everybody experiences these self-doubts, even highly successful business executives like Rajeev.
Make Good Art: Neil Gamain's Advice on the Creative Life, Adapted by Design Legend Chip Kidd

I definitely took some time to watch the address on this one- it's like a Ted Talk of inspirational motivational Chicken Soup for the Soul. I love that the focus is on Keeping Going, no matter what. Regardless of external situations, many of which you can't control (e.g. mutated boa constrictor- that line was a laugh!), you do have control over your ability to produce art or whatever it is you do. Regardless of how you do it, what matters is that you push yourself to continue producing and that you prioritize putting yourself and your art in new places on the journey. Good Art often requires a series of missteps on the way, but how will you know what works if you don't dabble in what doesn't?
